Following is a translation of the latest update from the Chief Rabbinate of Israel pertaining to the various companies selling insect-free leafy greens. The results pertain to the level of insect infestation and the level of pesticides found on products.

The inspection covers over 25 different companies selling insect-free greens.

Unlike earlier reports, this one also highlights two companies for excessive use of pesticides.

It should also be noted the report does not make reference to frozen or prewashed vegetables. (more…)

1. Chavuta (Chavrusa) Wine
A sweet red wine bottled under the name Chavruta (barcode 7290002850564) by the IG Company is labeled “Kosher mehadrin under the Haifa Rabbinate – Kosher for Passover, new bottle”.

The Haifa Rabbinate reports it does not grant kashrus certification for the wine, and the kashrut statement is fraudulent.

The wine may not be used, it should immediately be removed from shelves, and mashgichim are urged to report seeing the wine being use or sold. (Photo 1 left in the original Hebrew document) (more…)

1. Yevulei Lachish
Rabbi Shalom Elezra, the rav of Moshav Shachar and the Jerusalem Rabbinate report Yevulei Lachish has lost its hechsher. The company produces insect-free greens. The decision to revoke its kashrut resulted from kashrut infractions that were not corrected. (more…)

1. Treif Alert!
An alert mashgiach prevented the sale of lamb fat suspected of being treif to a meat processing factory. Fraudulent shipping manifests and documents accompanied the non-kosher lamb fat, but the mashgiach’s keen eye detected what was taking place. The paperwork stated the item was under the kosher supervision of the Tel Aviv – Jaffa Rabbinate, with the perpetrators using a stolen book of shipping manifests, taken from the Carmel Shuk. (more…)

1. Unauthorized Chicken Slaughter House
WARNING, FORGERY: An inspection of Gavrieli slaughterhouse (6 Pardes Street, Azure) distributed by Adir and Baruch LTD is marked “kosher under the Azure Rabbinate” but in essence, the slaughter house DOES NOT have kosher supervision at all. Its factory store also lacks any kosher supervision and all kosher claims are bogus.

Shochtim (ritual slaughterers) are prohibited from working in this slaughterhouse and failure to adhere to the prohibition may lead to one losing one’s certification to work for the Chief Rabbinate of Israel. (Item 1 in original Hebrew document. Right and left sides) (more…)

Regarding Chief Rabbanut Kashrut update 23/2010, it appears the Kashrut Enforcement Division erred regarding the above-mentioned item, number three in the Kashrut update.

Thousand Island dressing is, and has always been, PARVE! The OU-D on the original manufacturer’s label is an error; the importer’s sticker is actually correct. (more…)

Chetos Corns Snack, Cheese Flavored
The Netivot Rabbinate kosher claim is fine, but the Russian language translation erroneously lists the product as parve when in essence, it is dairy.

This may indeed result in members of the Russian speaking community to relate to the product as parve when in actuality, it is dairy as stipulated by the Netivot Rabbinate designation. (Item 1 in the original Hebrew document on the left side) (more…)

The Binyamina  - Givat Olga Rabbinate reports the kosher certification has been removed from this winery and therefore, the product is not permitted for use in halls and other eateries under the supervision of one of the local rabbinates. The Rabbinate has removed its hechsher from Meshek Kroiter insect-free greens after laboratory inspection revealed infestation in the company’s cauliflower and broccoli.
