Kashrus of Red Lentils on Pesach

The following information is translated from Chief Rabbinate of Israel Kashrus alert 015/5774 dated 7 Nissan 5774.

From the information gathered most of the red lentils imported to Israel are mixed with a vegetable oil and contain citric acid originating from chametz. Therefore one should not use these lentils, even those who use kitnios products on Pesach.

In commercial settings, establishments with hashgacha may only use these lentils of the shipment is accompanied by a letter of certification permitting the batch for Pesach use and approved by the Chief Rabbinate Import Unit.
