Kashrus alert from Rav Efrati

23 Menachem Av 5773

July 30, 2013

Rabbi Yosef Efrati advises that effective today, he has removed the hashgacha from the fruit and vegetable department in Yeinot Beitan/Kimat Chinam branches and as such, the badatz assumes no responsibility for any of the produce sold.

WHY? Are we permitted to know what terrible violation of halacha was committed to cause such drastic action?

For me personally, I do not always make such an assumption. Perhaps the stores changed vendors and this is objectionable to R’ Efrati.

Perhaps the store feels it can use a less expensive supervision, and yes, perhaps there was a violation.

Whatever the case, we are not being told what the circumstances surrounding this announcement are in this case.

BTW, in a case when there is a clear serious violation of kashrus, I too would hope the hashgacha would inform the public at large but my experience shows that this is not always the case in Israel.
