New Eida Fruit & Vegetable Vendor in Machane Yehuda

ega-brothers-small-2There is a new and very large fruit & vegetable vendor in Machane Yehuda, in the ‘Iraqi Shuk’ to be a bit more accurate. The store, Ega Brothers, is under the hechsher of Badatz Eida Chareidit, making it only the second fruit and vegetable vendor with an Eida hechsher in the shuk to the best of my memory.

For the unfamiliar, one may enter the Iraqi shuk from Machane Yehuda Street (the open street). If you are heading from Agrippas to Jaffa, then turn left about 2/3 of the way up. If you are working your way from Jaffa to Agrippas, then turn right about 1/3 of the way.

See photos for a sneak peek as well as an access street from Machane Yehuda Street to the Iraqi Shuk.

    Yechiel,

Would you explain (or point us to where you’ve explained it before) the difference between a Rabbanut hechsher and various Badatz hechsherim when it comes to fruits and vegetables?

    Thank you!!

Thanks. It is great to see this! Also it is so thoughtful of you to “show us the way” in both education and actual directions to the store.

Would you be able to tell us where the other eida hacharadis fruit and vege store is in the shuk? It is very confusing. i usually end up buying from any that have a Teuda and fruit that looks good- are the yellow and purple and beige teudot good?

Thanks for the pictures- they are very helpful!

There is another Eida fruit and vegetable store on the closed street, Eitz Chaim Street, on the left side if one is coming from Jaffa Street, one of the first stores in the shuk from that direction.
