Southern Comfort Update

New bottle with hechsher

New bottle with hechsher

I recently reported that there is now a selected line of Southern Comfort that carries a hechsher from Basel (Switzerland) and Badatz Beit Yosef (Israel).

What I did not know at the time of the previous release of June 14, 2010 that that product is sold in a newly-designed bottle, making it far easier to identify and eliminate confusion from the other bottles, which do not enjoy the same kosher certification.

Noted authority Rabbi Shmuel Semelman of Jerusalem, who I often use as a resource, cites this on his website. See Rabbi Semelman’s posting.

Please refer to my June posting for an explanation of the different Southern Comforts for sale today and their various kosher statuses.

I purchased Southern Comfort at Philadelphia National Airport on June 23, 2010 and was told that it was on the list of kosher drinks. I do not see a kosher symbol on the label. Printed on the backside of the bottle is: “Produced and Bottled by Southern Comfort Company, Louisville, Kentucky, U.S.A.” Is this kosher? Thank you for your response.

Thank you for this update. Do you know if bottles from the special batch will be available in the US?
