Thumbs Down to Badatz Beit Yosef

pilas-bakery-shukChiffon (Phyllis Bakery – Machane Yehuda – 81 Eitz Chaim St) – I was pleased when I recently learned this bakery is now certified by Badatz Beit Yosef (parve/dairy), a welcome addition to the previous Jerusalem Rabbinate (regular).

The old bags however, with the hechsher symbols of Rav Landau and Badatz Chatam Sofer Petach Tikvah are still being used.

I immediately contacted the Badatz and they told me no such situation would be permitted, informing me that until such time he has new bags printed, he will be compelled to use blank bags, not the old pink bags displaying hechsherim without authorization.

I passed today and to my dismay, those very same bags, displaying Rabbi Landau’s and Badatz Chatam Sofer Petach Tikvah are still visible.

PLEASE phone Beit Yosef and question this unacceptable practice which simply confuses consumers, and don’t forget to tell them that you as a consumer will not rely on a sloppy hechsher. The number of the office is 02-655-0550.

    Hello,
I recently went to the Chocolida ice cream store in Mahane Yehuda and they now have a kosher certificate.

    FROM A READER:
Hi! Thanks for putting in the phone numbers:
    1) I called and spoke to the Beit Yosef re: the bags at Chiffon (Phyllis Bakery – Machane Yehuda – 81 Eitz Chaim St) and he was VERY pleased and grateful that I let him know that the bags hadn’t been changed yet and he’d contact the people.

2] Re: the Buchari Bakery on Jaffa St.: I spoke with Rav Gamliel on Tuesday and he said he will tell the Mashgiach right away.

Thanks for the phone number and letting me “help” you. I just wanted to let you know that when the phone number appears I do/ will, blee neder, call. Be well, and thank you.
