I have received a number of requests regarding the kashrut certification appearing at the above mentioned restaurant, signed by Rav Shlomo Katzin, who is affiliated with the Sephardic Center in the Old City.
According to the Chief Rabbinate, the rav in question is not authorized to grant kashrut certification. An eatery is required to have a kashrut certification from the local religious council/rabbinate.

“An eatery is required to have a kashrut certification from the local religious council/rabbinate” Hmm, thats a new one! Is that a shach or a taz?
it think what was meant is that for an eatery to claim it is kosher it is required to have a kashrut certification from the local rabbinate
ben, I know what he meant. While that may be Yechiel’s idea of kosher, I dont see this halacha anywhere in my shulchan aruch. Hence my question: why can’t an eatery NOT be kosher even if it’s the RAV hamachsir doesn’t have smicha from the state?
