Mitz Pri Geula (Again)

Mitz Pri Geula - HaYeshiva St.

Mitz Pri Geula
I recently received numerous requests for an update on the Mitz Pri store on HaYeshiva Street in Geula. I last wrote about it in February (http://www.jerusalemkoshernews.com/2009/02/mitz-pri-%E2%80%93-fruit-juice-geula-jerusalem/) and with the arrival of students from abroad, I decided to take a run over there to see, since it is/was a popular site for many a seminary student, and at present, the arriving students are my highest priority.

To my dismay, nothing has really changed. There are two signs in the store (see website), one from the Eida Chareidit and the other from Badatz Chug Chatam Sofer Petach Tikvah. The first sign refers to “closed packages” of Nestle mehadrin ice cream while the latter, the Chatam Sofer letter, refers to frozen fruits distributed by Yaakov Yakar & Sons LTD.

In essence, the ice sold in unsealed packages may be mehadrin, and the frozen fruits used for shakes may be Chatam Sofer, but the status of the store remain without a hechsher and one opting to buy any opened products should be aware of this. There is also the matter of cones, toppings and so-forth, not mention any drinks sold from a fountain machine. The frozen fruits may pose many a problem, including shmitah and orla to name two.

Growing Requests to Check Restaurants

Regarding the growing number of requests to check hotels, restaurants and eateries, there is the matter of time, a limited commodity.

For now, with the shuk tours behind me, I am focusing on lectures to yeshiva and seminary students who are beginning their year of study. It is a simply issue of reaching as many people as possible, and these young folks frequent eateries so we are trying to get the message out to them as their year begins.

I am also distributing the new JKN laminated kosher handbook cards, which displays symbols of about 10 kashrut agencies, and lists the names of unauthorized agencies, providing a quick reference that can be carried in one’s wallet. The cards were made possible through the generosity of Yeshiva World News (http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/), SMS-Israel (http://smsisrael.com) and Adina Markowitz Photography (http://www.adinamarkowitzphotography.com/)
