Important Notice from the Machon Torah V’Haaretz
The following notification from the Torah & Land Institute was received by email on Tuesday, August 18, 2009. The original Hebrew text appears below this English translation:
Apples being sold today in the marketplace fall into one of three categories:
1. “Anna” Apples are from eighth year
2. Yellow apples are either from seventh year and some eighth. Unfortunately, in most places, they are not marked and they are mixed, 7th and 8th year fruit. This situation will continue until 10 Elul at the very least.
3. Sour apples from Israel are all seventh year and therefore must be handled with the kedusha of shmitah fruits and all accompanying halachot.

Correction: Rabbi Yitzchak Pinchas Kalish
For those who took part in the recent shuk walking tours, I quoted Rabbi Pinchas Farkash of the Rabbanut regarding trumot and ma’asrot in some of the tours.
I was referring to Rav Yitzchak Pinchas Kalish. Confused the name. Sorry for the inaccuracy but the statements quoted in his name were accurate.

You want us to believe that our Bedatz Eida Yerushalayim yarkan who placed a sign above his fresh, and quite tart Grand apples declaring them “Hadash” was misguiding us under the hechsher of the Bedatz?
Hardly likely.
