More Shuk News

One popular Shuk area location is Jerusalem Steakhouse located at 101 Agrippas Street. It says “mehadrin” all over the place but has a Jerusalem Rabbinate regular certification alongside an unauthorized hechsher.

Another common shuk practice is the wide array of signs stating “mehadrin” or bearing the symbol of one or more of the well established and trusted agencies.
They are all meaningless if they are not accompanied by a legitimate kosher certificate from the agency.

Store signs stating “mehadrin” are nothing more than meaningless signs posted by the owner and should not be misinterpreted as a legitimate kashrus statement.

A store may indeed sell mehadrin products, but this is not a “mehadrin hechsher” and without a legitimate hechsher, you cannot really know.

HUMOS RESTAURANT

Located opposite Pilas [see below],  is the “Humos” restaurant. It has NO supervision whatsoever. Hanging on the wall inside is a very outdated certificate from the unauthorized Badatz Nachlat Yitzchak agency.

PILAS BAKERY – 81 Eitz Chaim Street (main closed street)

The store sells burekas and cookies. It has a legitimate Jerusalem Rabbinate regular certificate, as well as displaying a photocopied letter from Chug Chatam Sofer which IS NOT a hechsher in anyway.

Even worse is the fact that the bags also carry the kashrus symbol of Rav Landau of Bnei Brak, considered among the highest standards in kashrus. The store DOES NOT have Rav Landau’s supervision and Chatam Sofer supervision and if you were to receive these cakes from a guest, you would never know.
